On November 18th at 8 pm, the Brooklyn Metro Chamber Orchestra brings an evocative program of cinematic orchestral music to The Vale Ballroom featuring critically acclaimed violinist, Esther Abrami.
The concert opens with Bernard Hermann’s suspenseful “Prelude” from the score of Psycho, Alfred Hitchcock’s timeless thriller.
Next, we feature Brooklyn born John Corigliano’s “Suite” from The Red Violin. French Violinist Esther Abrami will perform the emotional virtuosic etudes for solo violin. Corligliano developed the themes of the score to François Girard’s The Red Violin, which won Corigliano the Oscar in 1999.
“Concerto da Camera” for Flute, English Horn, and Strings by Arthur Honegger features Eva Ding, flute and Cat Cantrell, English horn. From the peaceful dissonances of the opening to the lively acrobatics of the final movement, Hermann has given us a superb example of 20th-century music. The closing piece, Dimitri Shostakovich’s engaging and vivid “Chamber Symphony in F Major,” was his response to censorship from the soviet authorities in 1946. This piece is a fine example of the revered Soviet composer’s brilliance and rebellion.
